Together At Last!

After nearly two years of paperwork and processes, the reality of our adoption was nearing its climax – the day our family of four would be together for the first time! With (only) the 20-hour flight from MN to India between us, our anticipation was overwhelming.

Our flights went as smoothly as we could have hoped, and before we knew it we were through the customs line at the Mumbai airport! The excitement that kept us awake on the airplane allowed us to adjust well to the 11.5 hour time difference and feel minimal effects of jet lag. We spent a couple of days in Mumbai, which provided an opportunity to experience some of India’s culture and observe some wonderful sights, before traveling to Isha’s town.

Our 5-hour car ride to Isha’s town turned out to be closer to 6.5 hours, but we arrived and checked into our hotel. We spent that night only 10 minutes away from the orphanage, and the morning couldn’t come soon enough!

The long-awaited day finally arrived! Being united with our daughter was an indescribably sweet moment, one that will remain in our hearts forever. Isha (pronounced EE-sha) Grace Higgins, at 14 months old, is such a precious little girl. We felt incredibly blessed to witness firsthand the deep love and care her caregivers had for her, and how well they understood her needs. The orphanage was a truly special place. When we met Isha, she immediately welcomed our embrace and snuggled into our arms. The orphanage director graciously offered Becca the opportunity to be the first to meet Isha—a privilege Becca eagerly accepted. It was a beautiful and unforgettable moment to see Isha for the first time, nestled in the arms of her big sister!

We are loving every minute of getting to know Isha!
